Rider Spotlight December 2015 - Jen Caruso

Name: Mama Jen

How long have you been riding?  How long have you been riding with Kim?

Off and on since I was 7.  So like...forever.  I have been riding with Kim for 2 years.

What is your riding history?

When I was younger I rode primarily English. At summer camp I learned vaulting, bareback and dressage.  When  I entered my 20’s I started jumping then quit  to work and have kids.

Who do you ride currently and who have you ridden in the past?

I ride the most beautiful Appaloosa named Bronson.  In the past was Lakota for a year and a half. Also Cali, Blu, Lizzy, Johnny Cash, Champ.

Tell a little about your current mount:

Bronson. Oh he is handsome, blond, curious and loving.  Once you build trust with him he will follow you anywhere.  He makes my heart melt.

What is your favorite discipline(s)?

I love them all.  I am always up for a new challenge and ready to tackle it all.

What is your favorite thing to do at the barn (other than riding)?

Spending time up there with the kids and the horses and learning new things every day.  It is such an amazing family up there.

What is your favorite 2015 memory?

Probably watching all the kids grow.  A lot of them changed horses.  My most memorable was actually watching Heather at a show with Cookie trying to do hurry scurry.  I watched her work for 3 minutes to get that horse to go through the cones and then to get over the jumps.  She never gave up.  She kept working and trying and staying strong and not giving up and letting the horse win.  It showed me just how much growth she had and I was so proud of her accomplishment.

If not then mine is bonding with Bronson at State for 5 days.  It was a huge turning point in our relationship.  I was actually able to get a breast collar on him.

What are your 2016 riding goals?

To make Bronson the most perfect horse so that he used in horsemanship and be perfect for anyone on the trail.  To buckle #1 in Division 6 this year at SOC.

What are your long term riding goals?

To be able to ride all horses with all disciplines, english, western, bareback. pony horses.

What do you get out of spending time at Franklin Canyon Stables?

So much happiness.  I always come home happy.  I have so many daughters now and I love them all.  I have some amazing friends and it is a true happy place to be.

What do you get out of spending time with horses?

Contentment, happiness. Whenever I am having a bad day all I have to do is be there and my mood changes to pure joy.  I feel like a little girl again.

Have you ever won any riding/show awards?  If so, what?

This year I took Reserve Champion in Division 7 on Bronson.  I also just won High Point award for all Appaloosas at SOC.
